Willkommen Freunde Mini Park
Welcome Friend to Holstein, Iowa, for the Quasquicentennial Celebration, June 9, 14-17. A model of the Holstein Turnhalle and a mural of old Main Street are among the features in the Holstein mini park.
Quasquicentennial Store Country Store Ladies
Be sure to visit the Quasqui Country Store on the west side of Main Street between the stop lights. Seated from left are Lorna Vollmar and Dolores Meyer, and standing from left are Dolores Witt and Shirley Ewoldt; all have worked tirelessly to prepare for the celebration.
Quasqui Crockery Commission Members

Afghans Cookbook
These afghans are available for sale at the country Store in chocolate, deep green or burgundy. Delores Witt holds the cookbook she created.
Planter Placement Finishing Touches
Ken and Scott Niemeier place one of the beautifully painted planters which will grace Main Street throughout the celebration and the summer. Lynette Schlitter touches up a Main Street planter before flowers, from Jane Hogue, are arranged inside.
Bath Night Planter Country School Planter
Main Street planter artist Delores Witt shows off the "Bath on Saturday Night" planter to townspeople, from left, Harry Endrulat, Johnnie Scherner and Henry Otto. Each Main Street planter is painted with a mural depicting a scene common to life in Holstein in the late 1800s. Shown here is "Country School," sponsored by Beth Ortner.
General Store Planter Barnyard Planter
The planters are donated by a local family or individual. "Thielmann's General Store" is sponsored by Gladys Branco. Dale and Dolores Meyer (pictured, left) and Lorraine Moser sponsored the “Barnyard” planter, designed by local artist Delores Witt (right).
The Barn Planter Turnhalle Planter
The William Leonard family sponsored "The Barn" planter in memory of the Hiram Leonard Line. This amazingly detailed planter shows the inside of the Turnhalle and is donated by the Mary Otto family.
Children's Day Planter Band Shell Planter
The Children's Day planter is donated by Delores Witt and daughters Margaret and Patsy in memory of Jack Witt. The "Band Shell and Park" planter is donated by Ray and Roy Wehde families in memory of Gus and Anna Wehde.
The Conovers The Clausens
Cary and Victoria Conover dance the night away in their 1880s finery at the Old-Fashioned Costume Ball which kicked off Holstein's Quasquicentennial Celebration week. The Mike Clausen family is shown in front of “The Country Store” display at the Quasquicentennial Ball June 9.
The Grosses with Lana Conover The Vollmars
Holstein Mayor Mary Gross is pictured with her husband, Terry, and Lana Conover, a member of the Quasquicentennial committee. The Don and Lorna Vollmar Family gathered together for a three-generation family portrait with son Randy and wife Kathy Vollmar, daughter Sheree and husband Steve Vohs, and granddaughters at the Holstein Quasquicentennial Ball June 9.
Beard Contest Participants The Parkers with Joyce Galvin
Winners of the Holstein Quasquicentennial beard contest are shown at their burly best. Ron and Deb Parker visit with Joyce Galvin at the Old-Fashioned Costume Ball in Holstein, June 9. The celebration of the town's 125th anniversary continues through June 17.
Rep. Steve King and Mark Leonard Costume Winners
U.S. Rep. Steve King, R-Iowa, is pictured with Mark Leonard (left) and Keith Leonard at the Holstein Quasquicentennial Celebration June 9. Many of the men in Holstein put their razors away for six months, including these cousins, who are great-grandsons of 19th-century Holstein pioneers. Costume Contest winners were named at the Holstein Quasquicentennial Celebration Old Fashioned Costume Ball on June 9. Winners were selected by a panel of judges for the best period costume worn by a family, couple, and adult and youth individuals. The Quasquicentennial continues through June 17. The winners are: Victoria and Cary Conover and daughter Leah for Family; Mark and Sheryl Leonard for Couple; Lori Morgan for Adult Female; Joe Titcomb for Adult Male; and Kathleen Kreutz for Child Girl. Not pictured are the winners of the Child Boy category, Brady and Cayden Clausen.
